Welcome to the Flietermolen blog,
Here i will attempt to tell the story of the project of restoring the mill at Flieterkouter 43A, the oldest building in Tollmebeek, back to a working mill and a hub of activity for local people.

Friday and Sunday we opened the doors of the mill to welcome the neighbours, The mayor of Galmaarden and members of the local press. In total we had over 100 people come visit us, with an overwhelmingly positive reaction to the fact that the mill was going to stay, not be knocked down for property development and actually restart as a mill selling wholemeal flour.

Many people were asking the same questions, 'when do you expect to be up and running', and as I see it today, it will take about six months to get the millstones repaired and sharpened,  maybe replaced, and to create a safe and clean area around the millstones so that we can produce a stoneground flour for retail.

The co-operative start-up is running in parallel and I am talking to lawyers and friends/advisors about the statutes - I think that could be in place within six weeks.

The visitors over the weekend included a wide variety of neighbours, Farmers who used to bring their corn for milling, people who played as children on the mound that used to be around the base used to set the sails, in the days of the sails, and newcomers fascinated to visit the oldest building inTollembeek. These people had many ideas of how the Space beside the mill could be used.

Thanks to everybody who came and to all those who helped.
